MWC Daily Briefing: Day 0

With a team of 24 at MWC, we’ll be bringing you the insights that matter. Each morning, we’ll break down what happened, highlight key takeaways, and help you prepare for the day ahead. We’re covering the key panels, talks, and roundtables.

Each day, our CTO, Dan, will share his perspective on what’s unfolding, giving you expert analysis you can bring into your own conversations. We’re also speaking with other industry leaders to get their views on the biggest challenges and opportunities shaping telecoms.

Dan’s Thoughts

📌 5G & AI (Monday) – 5G Standalone rollout has been slow, with little real progress on its most disruptive promises, like network slicing. We’ll listen keenly for progress others have made. AI will be everywhere, but often as a buzzword rather than a real solution. The real value is in using the right technology for the right problem – sometimes that’s AI, but often it’s not.

📌 Open Gateway & APIs (Tuesday) – I’ve long advocated for a more open approach in telecoms to improve efficiency, security, and customer experience. While Open Gateway capabilities keep evolving, the real question is whether operators are making full use of what’s already available.

📌 eSIM & Travel SIMs (Wednesday) – eSIM is often reduced to just enabling Travel SIMs, but its real potential is much greater. Travel SIMs have taken off because of high roaming prices, but better roaming management could shift the balance. It’ll be interesting to see whether discussions focus on immediate gains or the bigger picture.

Expect clear, useful updates. Feel free to share with your colleagues.
